Indian Business Council renews leadership at fifth annual general meeting

The Indian Business Council (IBC) convened its fifth annual general meeting on March 27, 2026, bringing together members for an evening that combined formal governance with networking and strategic reflection.

The meeting reviewed the organisation’s activities over the past year, with members presented with the president’s report and financial statements before proceeding to the election of a new management committee for the forthcoming term.

Jayasankar Seshadri was reappointed as president, extending his tenure at the helm of the organisation. His re-election signals continuity in leadership at a time when business associations are increasingly expected to play a role in fostering and supporting dialogue.

Following the AGM, the newly elected management committee held its first sitting to designate office bearers. Prashant Babhale was appointed vice-president, while Ajay Vij and Vivek Mathur will serve as secretary and assistant secretary respectively. Financial oversight will be led by treasurer Pradeep Malik, known as Tony, alongside assistant treasurer Meenakshi Saxena.

The broader management committee comprises Amit Gupta, Sarad Kumar Baranwal, Manish Sharma, Anupam Jain and Ritesh Abbi. In its inaugural meeting, the committee also opted to co-opt Manoj Ujoodha and Kamal Hawabhay as special invitees, a move that reflects an effort to widen participation in the council’s activities.

The AGM also provided an opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of outgoing committee members, whose tenure coincided with a period of consolidation for the organisation.

While the formal proceedings focused on governance, the event concluded with a networking session over dinner, underscoring the council’s role as a platform for professional exchange within Mauritius’ business ecosystem.

As it enters its next term, the IBC is expected to build on its existing initiatives while strengthening engagement with stakeholders across sectors, positioning itself within the broader landscape of business associations contributing to economic dialogue in Mauritius.
