Raisina Dialogue 2024: Navigating Global Challenges and Charting a New Course

Hon. Maneesh Gobin, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and International Trade of Mauritius, has been actively participating in the Raisina Dialogue 2024, a prestigious platform for global leaders and policymakers to deliberate on key geopolitical issues shaping the world today. This year’s dialogue, marked by insightful discussions and strategic exchanges, holds significant importance as nations seek to address the unprecedented challenges brought forth by the Covid-19 pandemic and chart a course for a more resilient and inclusive future.

One of the highlights of the event was the inaugural dinner panel discussion titled “Looking Back, Looking Ahead: The Long Decade,” hosted by H.E. Vinay Mohan Kwatra, the Foreign Secretary of India. Reflecting on the profound impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, Minister Gobin emphasised how it disrupted the global landscape and compelled nations to reassess their approach to international cooperation.

As a Small Island Developing State (SIDS), Mauritius found itself particularly vulnerable to the repercussions of the crisis. However, Minister Gobin noted the solidarity demonstrated by the international community, particularly highlighting India’s pivotal role.  Furthermore, Minister Gobin underscored the lessons learned from the pandemic, particularly regarding the importance of global solidarity in securing vaccines and essential protective materials. He emphasised Mauritius’s commitment to engaging with relevant stakeholders for meaningful reforms, including advocating for a reformed and enlarged United Nations Security Council and reforms within the Bretton Woods Institutions. Minister Gobin’s remarks highlighted Mauritius’s proactive stance in addressing the evolving dynamics of the global order and its dedication to fostering a more inclusive and equitable international system.
