Not many institutes have a certification program in place

The Director Development Program, a collaborative effort between the MIoD and the Open University of Mauritius, is instrumental in preparing leaders. Drawing a parallel between her own educational journey and the professional paths of the graduates, the CEO of the MIoD, Sheila Ujoodha, emphasized the importance of perseverance, commitment, and the ongoing pursuit of excellence in leadership. In a momentous ceremony marking the culmination of years of dedication and hard work, Sheila Ujoodha, CEO of the Mauritius Institute of Directors (MIoD), centred her address celebrating the achievements of the graduates on the vital role of continuous professional development in corporate governance. I’m excited to see how each of you will lead and innovate within your organizations and beyond

Sheila Ujoodha reminisced about her first day of high school, drawing a parallel between her personal journey and the professional paths of the graduates. “I was thinking this morning about my first day of high school. I stood outside the door of my first class, my heart pounding with fear and anticipation. Well, fast forward to the last day of school, I walked out that same door, my heart filled with gratitude and a sense of accomplishment. Life’s journeys take us along many paths to reach our destinations.”

Her recent visit to Turkey for the annual meeting of the Global Network of Directors Institutes underscored the program’s significance. “I observed that not many institutes have a certification program in place. Some developed countries do have, while others, especially those based in Paris, are still striving to have one. But here in Mauritius, we are at the forefront with our Director Development Program,” she proudly noted. This achievement positions Mauritius as a leader in corporate governance education, with the potential to expand further internationally.

Looking ahead, the CEO emphasized the MIoD’s ongoing support, and the importance of continuous learning. “Our aim is not just to educate, but to equip you with the necessary tools and skills. I encourage you to stay connected with us, drawing on the resources and networks we offer to continually refine your skills and enhance your leadership potential. The future is yours to shape, and I’m excited to see how each of you will lead and innovate within your organizations and beyond. Let us move forward together with a shared commitment to excellence in leadership and corporate governance.

Addressing the graduates, the CEO of the MIoD commended their perseverance and commitment. “Dear graduates, today, as we celebrate your remarkable journey and achievements with the GDP, please allow me to commend your courage and determination. Despite the exigencies of your professional duties, you have made the time to successfully pursue the GDP, which is both admirable and inspiring.
