Bank of Mauritius Focuses on Merit, Diversity, and Inclusion

The Bank of Mauritius has set a benchmark for gender parity and inclusivity in leadership with the recent appointments to its Board of Directors and the Monetary Policy Committee. Governor Dr. Rama Sithanen underscored this milestone, stating that “we have been able to reconcile the core criteria of merit while ensuring diversity and inclusion. I hope this will pave the way for gender parity, diversity, and inclusion in companies engaged in banking and finance.”

 

Reconstituted in accordance with the Bank of Mauritius Act 2004, the new Board of Directors is made up of professionals with extensive experience in economics, finance, law, and corporate governance:

Dr. Rama Krishna Sithanen, G.C.S.K. (Chairperson):
Dr. Sithanen, the Governor of the Bank of Mauritius, has over 46 years of experience across the public and private sectors. He previously served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance. He holds academic qualifications from the London School of Economics and Brunel University.

Mr. Rajeev Hasnah (First Deputy Governor):
An economist and CFA charterholder, Mr. Hasnah has a background in investment management, corporate finance, and economic diplomacy. He is a graduate of Warwick Business School.

Mr. Gérard Sanspeur (Second Deputy Governor):
Mr. Sanspeur brings expertise in regional trade, economic development, and investment. He studied at the University of Aix-Marseille.

Ms. Sharmilla Bhima:
A lawyer and Partner at Appleby Mauritius, Ms. Bhima specializes in corporate law, arbitration, and intellectual property.

Ms. Shalini Jugessur:
Managing Director at Accenture, Ms. Jugessur oversees operations across multiple regions and has experience in technology and business strategy.

Ms. Mehzabine Peerbhai:
Chief Investment Officer of Groupe Filatex, Ms. Peerbhai has expertise in corporate banking, treasury, and investment.

Mr. Matthew John Lamport:
A Senior Lecturer at the University of Mauritius, Mr. Lamport is a Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant and has contributed to financial reporting and corporate governance.

Ms. Jennifer Webb de Comarmond:
Founder of Engaged Solutions Ltd, Ms. de Comarmond has experience in human resource management and talent development.

Monetary Policy Committee

The Monetary Policy Committee, tasked with setting monetary policy to achieve price stability, has also been reconstituted. It includes:

Dr. Rama Krishna Sithanen, G.C.S.K. (Chairperson):
As Governor, Dr. Sithanen chairs the MPC and contributes his extensive expertise in fiscal and monetary policy.

Mr. Rajeev Hasnah (First Deputy Governor)
Bring his economic and financial knowledge to the MPC.

Mr. Gérard Sanspeur (Second Deputy Governor)
Bring his economic and financial knowledge to the MPC.

Dr. Jameel Ahmed Khadaroo:
Dr. Khadaroo, Founder and CEO of OptiFin Solutions Ltd, specializes in econometrics and has prior experience as an Associate Professor.

Ms. Sharmila Banymandhub- Chakowa:
Ms. Banymandhub- Chakowa is a finance professional and independent director with more than 30 years of experience in various sectors.

Ms. Martine Ip:
Ms. Ip is an Audit and Assurance Partner at Kemp Chatteris and has served on multiple boards as an independent director.

Dr. Myriam Blin:
Dr. Blin is the Head of Faculty at Curtin Mauritius, with over 20 years of academic experience in economics.

Dr. Jeevita Matadeen:
Dr. Matadeen is a Senior Lecturer in Finance at the University of Mauritius and holds a Ph.D. in Finance.
